-the protagonist will be seen in peril
-themes of identity are common, mistakes identified, amnesia
-the protagonist is fallible - has an Achilles heel/weakness that is explained.
-the narrative centers upon crime (theft, murder)
-the antagonist ensnares the protagonist in an increasingly complex web, leaving them helpless and isolated.
-the audience is placed in the ambiguous position of voyeur
-a series of enigmas are resolved at the end.
-themes of seeing, reflection and mirroring
-micro-elements combine in a built up suspense
-extra0ordinary events in ordinary situations.
