Question 3 (GROUP) - Audience

Me and my partner Kento decided that this film would be targeted for teenager and adult as the film tries to portray the life of an everyday teenager in school who are specifically gamer's. I have showed a few people from our school and asked them what they thought about the film.

Bruce and Diana Wade (my parents) said that "we like the story, good story flow, it scared your mom abit with the sound effects when the naked boy came inside the room. i can see the work, maybe if when the main character came back from looking outside of the door there could have been maybe a message in the screen telling him to leave immediately and don't come back, good sound effects, need to improve the lighting,"

Tim McDonald - " good points were, half the movie were equilibrium, i like the change of the scenery and the tension build up form minimal to something scary, sounds, Kento smiled at the camera which needs to be removed as it is not designed for stage, it distract's from the suspense, some of the shots were long e.g. the door closing and maybe some activity of paranormal, think it was quite nice, bit more light effects, good story line, scared me for a while there."

Our target audience can be compared to paranormal activity Paranormal Activity is aimed primarily at a younger audience of around 15-25. The main characters are of a younger age and this makes the film feel more realistic to that age group as teens can relate to the experiences easier, making the film scarier in the process. However, the film series carry on one story throughout, meaning that older fans of the first films will be drawn in as they may have an interest or curiosity about the story aspect of the film. The film has a similarity towards our one as they both end with the main characters dying but before death things happen that they cant explain.

Question 2 - Representation

Main Characters:

Kento(Steve)

Characteristics:
-Lazy
-Addicted to Social Networking/Games
-Immature
-Cheerful
-Anti-Social
-Arrogant

James (Ghost)

Characteristics:
- Deadly
- Dead
- wants something
- likes to mess with it's victims

Mise En Scene: Steve is just a teenager who is moving to a new apartment. we can see this by what he is wearing, smart clothes that show that his school if a top ranked school. When we move to the scene of him playing games we can see that he is very untidy as his things are just scattered everywhere, the audience can expect this from a teenager who is a gamer

Camerawork:When i was filming Kento coming into the building it gives the audience a view that he is a smart business man or student which makes them very interested in him. However when to was filming Kento playing his games and gave the audience a view of what he is really like then it will make the audience very interested in him as to what may happen next.

Sound: The music that i mixed at the beginning of the project just didn't fit in with the film as our peers thought that it didn't make any sense and it was to loud. However that didn't stop me and kento and i mixed a new sound which was more peaceful and more calm specially with the beginning of the film when Kento is walking up the stairs. The sound in the beginning of the film is peaceful and not so loud but as Kento starts walking and getting closer to his room the sound starts getting louder and makes the audience more interested as they want to know what is going to happen next.

Editing: Me and Kento didn't edit Steve's actions to much along with James so that they didn't get to confused. The only time that we needed to edit Kento was when he was in character as his face was to blurry also for James when he was coming towards me and Kento the first shot was to blurry and also when we took pictures of James behind Kento the shots were blurry the rest of the time we didn't edit only the sound and where to put it so that it could fit in with the right scene

Dream-cast

Olivia Munn

Olivia Munn

Olivia Munn has said that she is "so addicted to video games." Her favorites include Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Guitar Hero.
She likes to play games most of the time, she is cheerful but can be immature at time specially when she is a party, she is also lazy at is is reported that her house can be messy from time to time as a result of playing games.

QUESTION 1 - Conventions

In this scene the audience can get a sneak peak of what is going on. This should make them wonder where this character is at and why he is there. The audience would probably think that he is just signing in to his work place which would make them think twice about his work place as they also may think that is his school. Me and Kento are trying to give this to the audience to make them think that the character is a teen from his clothing however he may also be a business man.

This is a long shot taken of the main character Steve(Kento). However people in the audience may still wonder why is he in this building, what the purpose of him being here?  In this scene you can see Steve that he is looking for the correct room but cant find it, the audience may wonder what room he is looking for and whats inside it.

In this scene we tell the audience that Steve has moved to a new apartment. We got the idea from. The scene can be seen in most horror thrillers. Where they move into a new apartment and then something occurs that will change their way of having gone to that place in the first place.

This scene is a long shot of the hall way when Steve looks to find his room at the beginning of the film. This shot can create tension as the audience may think that it was morning just a few minutes ago and now its dark. Although nothing appears in this scene it make make the audience wonder what is going on and what is going to happen?

This is a long shot of Steve sitting on his chair while he is playing games. This scene is when the light go on and off very fast for a short period of time. We took a long shot so that the audience can see Steve's reaction when the light go on and off. In his role the audience can see that he is just a teenager who is a lazy gamer that just plays games all the time. You would think that he would run for his life's sake but just isn't bothered and is to busy playing games.

This a close up scene of the ghost (James) and Steve (Kento). This scene is in almost every thriller, that the main character is just doing his thing and all of the sudden gets scared by going from the character to what he is doing and back to the character and seeing that there is someone or something behind him without him even knowing. This scene should tell the audience that the room that Steve is staying at is haunted and would be a good idea to leave as the main character looks like he is going to be killed at any time soon. This would make the audience think, why is the room haunted and just who is the ghost also if the main character is at all the main character or is he just a host for the ghost to take to haunt the next person that enters its lair.

Lesson 13

Today we saw the video and were happy with it however we still needed to make the sound better. So  i decided to mix the sounds again and this time make sure they are not so loud and that it fits only when the haunting would start. I also mixed a sound so that we had sound for the beginning of the film. The Final result is good with the sounds fitting perfect.

Lesson 12

Today we were continuing from where we left off. We got James to be our little ghost already to film. We started to film and i positioned my-self to be in perfect angle so that i could get James and Kento. I had the lights go off when we stated to film and had the lights go on and off once again, but this time in the last one we had James appearing as his character the ghost. I had him coming towards me and the camera and as he got closer you couldn't see him as his body went pitch black but i still used it as i thought it was a good shot. Then i got James to stand behind Kento and i took pictures so that i would look like James would appear and disappear but got closer to kento and then we would cut.
After the filming was done we were happy with the shots and James went to get a shirt on and Kento was organize the clips to make the video.

Lesson 11

Today me and Kento continued with out film. Today we were going to film all of the scary parts. We first need to get out Ghost James and told him that if we could use a shirt and paint it red which would show that he was a deadly ghost. Instead i came up with the idea of letting him just war his shorts and not a shirt. It was a pretty good and funny ideas as we wanted to laugh but instead just kept it in as we didn't want to make James embarrassed. We asked him if he could film the following day and agreed.

We came up with a new idea of instead of me coming in and telling him that something was wrong and also a scene where we would have all the sixth form boys to run towards the exit door but most of them were busy with homework and didn't want to do it so we just decided to do the hunting in Kento's room. We started filming  and had kento playing his games and then had the lights go off and back on, but had kento act like it was nothing. We did it again but this time we turned the light off and back on many times very fast which made kento scared and looked towards the door but just continued to play his game.

Lesson 10

Today Me and Kento had decided to re-edit and re film some scenes like the opening and we needed to film the scary scene which was the whole point of the thriller. we had decided that we were going to add more things like in the beginning when Kento is walking up the stair way we see a dead person's body just hanging there which we thought was going to be scary and give the audience that level of fright.

We started filming and we re-filmed almost everything except the beginning. We started with the entrance to Kento's room and how he just opened the door and went inside and found only a bed, closet, bathroom and a desk. After that we waited for the night to come and then continued where Kento would be in his room and i would be filming next to him while he was playing games. After that we then went into Kento hearing noises coming from outside of his room. He then would stand up and go to the door. I would started to film from outside his room and then decided to to move with him, when he looked to the right i would move the Camera to the right and when he moved his head to the left i would move the camera to the left. After that scene we started filming inside of his room again and this time he would hear the noises from the outside but this time they were of someone knocking on his door but he just acted like it was nothing and continued playing his game.

Lesson 9

Today we were all looking at each others presentations and share our ideas of what we think about them and how they can be improved. we had seen all of our peers presentation and gave them feedback of what we thought was good and what we thought could be improved. Since we had ran out of time we did not have enough time to show our presentation.

The next day we had shown our presentation but everyone thought it was unfinished. we had only shown them a piece of the start to confuse them but instead they ended up saying that we need to improve the music and not make it as loud. we needed to work on our editing. we also needed to improve the story line and make it look like a thriller.

Me and Kento had decided to go back and look at the scenes that we thought were not as good as we wanted them to be and I saw that the music was to loud and didn't exactly fit in with the thriller. I think we have to re film the scenes. I also noticed the scene where Kento was walking into his room the camera was too focused which resulted in the scene being quite blurry which our classed mates didn't like and couldn't understand. I tried to adjust it however I think we should re film that scene as well.
Media Project

Lesson 8

Today we filmed our scene where I would going to kento's room and meeting him as the last time we recorded it we had changed things like our clothing and I had started to work on the mixing of the music. I had a look on YouTube on scary noises and creepy voices. I decided to use some of the soundtracks and decided to mix them using my Virtual DJ software. the mixing was simple and after I saw what sounds I liked I had decided to record. After recording 2 times I found that there was something missing so I went back in to you tube and found a soundtrack of people crying and screaming which I decided to use and went back to mixing. After mixing the crying and screaming and the other two soundtracks I had found what I was locking for.

Lesson 6

Today we are going to film the next scene which is me coming into Kento's room and giving him his bag, introducing myself as an assistant (to James the Manager). I will be going kento to give him the keys to the room, and tell him if he need anything to just call me, then leave. we are also going to film the scary noises scene where Kento will be in his room and we will be putting speakers around the room but hiding them so the audience doesn't notice and making scary noises that the ghost (Martin) will be making and scaring Kento.

However after carefully looking at the  scenes we have agreed to Re Film The part where Jhon comes in and shakes my hand, we felt that it was too simple. In the end we decided not to use that scene as I felt it would over complicate things and make the audience confused.
Media Project

Lesson 5

We had collected the camera and the tripod and had decided to start filming our opening scene which was about Kento entering the apartment complex and signing in and meeting the manager (James) and goes to his room. We had started to film right after school around 3:30 pm and finished at 4:45 pm we had taken many shots and did lots of retakes to get the angles just right and the lighting perfect.

Kento had edited the parts we filmed but struggled to edit the sound as we then had to come up with what type of sound we were going to use.

Media Project

Lesson 4

We Decided which areas of the boarding house we were going to use to film are project and came up with a few spaces that had the angles that would help us when shooting the scenes.

Areas We are going to use for film production:

Lesson 3

Planing

Movies to watch to help: Halloween movies, night mare on elm's street, psycho,
we looked at many thrillers to help us understand better and help us with creating our own thriller. we want to make a scary thriller to give the audience that wow factor and looking at the thrillers on YouTube on different movies it has and hopefully will helps us with completing our thriller.

We looked at different types of trailers to give us an idea about horror thrillers. Our storyline starts with a guy called Steve moving into a new apartment. .Later at night while Steve is playing games he is shocked to death when he finds out their is a ghost in his apartment room which ends the scene.

Lesson 2

Planning
Thriller: starts in boarding, kento's room. he is playing games in his room. He hears a scary noise coming from outside of his room. he stands up and starts walking to the door and lights go on and off and kento starts to get scared.

Next scene he opens the door and all the lights are off and everything is dark. he starts to panic and steps out of his room. something rushes past him and knocks him on his back. scary noises start to occur and kento gets up even more scared.  He gets up and see that Jhon is running and screaming run for your life as martin playing the ghost is chasing us and we decide to hide in Jhon´s room and hope that its safe but then martin appears from behind and the camera closes up  to both of our faces and quickly turns to Martin with a smiley face. camera cuts to flat line.

Suspense- giving information 1. Character and 2. Audience
Uncertainty is what creates tension.
the first clip shows that Jeff is staring at different people and a couple. some people are in their homes talking and relaxing some are trying to get a tan and the couple recently wed have moved into their new house and the groom is trying to please his wife by carrying her through the door into their new home. It shows to me that Jeff loves Lisa and Stella is trying to tell you that she thinks that he should marry her but it also looks like he is not that ready or interested as he is in a wheelchair and wont be there for her when she needs him as he must stay in his house and would have to wait for Lisa to come so they can be together. their relationship is a bit weird as he is in a wheel chair and she is trying to support him.

One Minute film Evaluation

The Heist - Group Project

There was really no planning when we decided to make our clip. We had a plan initially but never got to it. All the scenes that we did where all created on set on the spot. We all listened to each other's ideas making the work easier. When we were going to start filming Me and Eyes were the directors, Abby was the Camera Woman and Best was editing the clips.

we got the camera and the tripod and went to start out mini movie. we started our film in the entrance of the Sixth form center where the steps are at. we had started filming but the layout was not as good as we wanted it so we had to adjust the position on the shot an had to retake the shot, in total we did about 5 opening shots for the beginning of our movie. after our beginning was done we did the moving up the steps with me walking in front of the camera and then seeing that the girl was pretty I walked back up the stair to follow her.

When we shot the second scene I was going to try to grab the girl but then decided to go hiding behind the wall so that the girl couldn't see me. Then after that we went to focus on the girl while she was listening to her music. when she was listening her music we had decided that I would grab the girl so when shooting the film I went close to the girl and grabbed her where she made a screaming face. After she had made her screaming face then hero/Best saw me and made a what! face.

When we shot the third scene the director/Abby wanted us to make a fighting scene and so best and I made many takes for the fighting scene, the hole point was for me to come and he acting thought I punched him and he would fall to the floor. it was funny and so we decided that he would be the one who would gets kidnapped.

After me punching best we had decided that the next scene would be me and best only. I would drag best to the elevator, open it and got him in and in the last part I pointed at the camera which meant that someone is next and then made a peace sign with my hand.

after we had finished our filming which took us 2 days to fix scenes that we didn't like we left best to edit the entire film which was really impressive as he made it funny using sound effects.
When we had showed the class our video they gave us some feed back on what they liked and didn't like.

what they liked:
  • Sound effects
  • good editing
  • funny
  • good music
  • good effects
What they didn't like:
  • lighting effects
  • doesn't have a storyline
  • should have an intro
  • too much sound
  • not enough dialogue
Children of Men

In the opening of the film we see that a bunch of people gathering up to watch the news.  The news has states about the death of an 18 year old which seems odd. As the film continues it a news reporter states that the 18 year old person was the youngest person in the world which tells me that there is a crisis in fertility.  I can immediately tell who the main character is (Clive Owen) everyone is so interested on what is on the news that he just walks out of the coffee shop like he doesn't really care. Everyone else in the room seemed very sad that this had occurred but that didn't stop him as he just skipped the line and got himself a coffee.

While the main character walks away the camera follows him which catches are attention. The protagonist can be seen that once he has left the coffee shop he takes out a flask and starts putting alcohol in his coffee which suggests that he is trying to release some sort of stress or he is an alcoholic and he has had a rough day.

The opening is filmed in London in the year 2027,  However London doesn't look high tech like you would expect it to be instead it looks like the London we know today, It looks dirty and polluted. As soon as the main character has finished putting alcohol in his coffee a bomb goes off in the coffee shop that he was just in. The bomb exploding sort of tells us that London is dangerous with low chances of survival by just going to get a cup of coffee. After the bomb goes off a woman comes out of the store with one arm missing, it seems like no one cares, no-one is seen calling the ambulance or police. The city is also filled with bin bags suggesting that waste has not been collected in sometime.
